The best part is the staff. They helped us in so many ways: recommendations for dining, information on the city, help on getting our airlines straight, and more. They were very friendly too. We learned more from Elana about Madrid than from the official tours.

Pleasant, helpful staff. Very clean facilities. Nice private bath. Good sized room with three proper, single beds. Use of cups and electric teapot. Milk put into fridge. Good directions. Very, very quiet in room on large, sunny airshaft. Help in arranging an early morning cab. Walkiing distance to all major sites -- and I have an artificial leg. The street is a pleasant walking mall with trees and several good shops and restaurants.
The street entry to the hotel has garrish green and white signs, some of which are for Fundacion de Sexpol, which I believe is an organization supporting the rights of sex workers. That entry was very off-putting, and we almost did not enter. However, once into the building, evrything was very nice, and we saw nothing of any sex workers or other second class activities. Be aware that the entry is on a pedestrian street, and gettting to it can be a little challenging. Also, parking in the area is very, very expensive; I.E. 28 euros or $42 a day, even on the outskirts of Madrid. As a result, we returned our rental car three days early and used a cab to the airport. The cab was supposed to be no more than 35 euros, maybe only 30 euros, but at the end some sort of airport surcharge was added and we paid 46 euros! The driver was nice, but drove slowly. We said nothing, but felt a little taken advantage of. We did appreciate his stopping for 4 minutes while my wife bought stamps for postcards.
